Dr. Valin is extremely professional and has a very confident manner. He is not intimidating and I found him to be very friendly. He takes time to answer all questions without being condescending. My continued contact with Dr. Valin simply reinforced my earlier impression that I had chosen the right surgeon and practice for my RNY procedure. Dr. Valin's office staff couldn't have been more accommodating, more friendly or more attentive. Debbie Valin, APRN, is the top office staffer and is an extremely personable and medically informed person. Debbie is a straight talker, as is Dr. Valin. The practice provided a great deal of written material prior to surgery, so there were no surprises. The aftercare program is spelled out in the material and in discussions with Dr. Valin and his staff. As for risks, Dr. Valin was very direct, citing statistics on the risk of RNY surgery. My choice came after research spanning more than a year and I would rate Dr, Valin among the tops in all categories.

Rating (A) To date all of my worst fears have not materialized. Dr Valin was supportive, charted a course for me before, during and after the surgery that has left me feeling good. His staff have been responsive to all of my needs. I rate him an A for how things are going to this point. 3 Weeks post surgery down 37 lbs. I can only praise his work from a consumer educated point of view- 7 major operations in last 10 years most with complications after. The only negative is that he needs to speak with Hospital of St Raphael's re hospital accomodations, rooms are old look dirty, staff is continuously overburdened, little comfort for the patient.

My first impression of Dr. Valin was that he was very professional. I did not actually meet with him until a week and a half before surgery. He was adamant about following the diet after surgery and was very, very knowledgable. He helped put me at ease before my surgery. While in the hospital, he stopped in to check on me and even told a joke. I was shocked because he was always so serious. I would recommend him.

I liked his attitude, no bs. i like his staff they were very helpful and accommodating. They really helped me with the hospital. Very good support team for pre and post op.

If your looking for a surgeon to Chat with, Dr. Valin, isn't your guy. However, if you are looking for a SUPER WLS Surgeon, don't look any further. His staff, including his wonderful wife, are extremely professional, and very friendly.
I am sooooo glad my internal medicine Dr recommended Dr. V.
Debbie (Mrs. V) did a great job explaining my WLS options, and what was right for me. I decided on the VBG, which only Dr. Valin performs in CT. It took about 2 months to get everything approved through the insurance and also complete the psycho and nutritional evaluations.
I would recommend Dr. V and his staff to anyone considering WLS.

I really didnt meet Dr. Valin until a week and a few days before my surgery, most of my interaction was with his wife and his office staff. His office staff was ok. I saw Dr. Valin at a meeting before surgery, then after the surgery was over.

The staff at Dr. Valins office is just amazing. What wonderful people. Debbie is fabulous, caring and genuine. Dr. Valin obviously is a great surgeon. Every step of the process was made easier by amazing people. My choices of surgeon and having the surgery were the best choices I have ever made in my life!!!

I haven't met Dr. Valin as of yet. I did meet with his wife, Debbie who is also his assistant. She was very personable and gave me all of the facts and information I needed. I felt very comfortable with her and her office staff. She explained a surgery called Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG) to me and said that I was a good canditate for that because I had no existing co-morbidities and I wouldn't have to come in to get the band adjusted like with the LapBand. So, prior to that visit, I had no knowledge of that surgery and she told me that Dr. Valin is the only Dr. in CT that performs it. He's done about 200 of them in the last year and a half and she said they have seen great success with it.
10/23/07:
Dr. Valin was very nice and informative. He also has a sense of humor! When he came to visit me the day after surgery in the room, he said "Before you leave, we are going to remove those testicles!" How funny is that?! He meant those 2 drains that look like balls attached to tubes! I thought that was hilarious! Debbie is very nice and they are both so down-to-earth... very satisfied with my Dr. and his staff. So glad I chose him...

My surgeon was excellent, his office staff made you feel very comfortable while you were there for any appointment, and very helpful on the phone when you call in wiht simple questions..I would recomend Dr.Valin to anyone!!

His office staff is great. They are very warm and caring. His wife Debbie is a wonderful person, and very smart and professional with the medical points that are addressed. She gave me a lot of support.
I give them a AAA+ and reccomend me them to everyone I meet. With their help I was given a chance to regain my life.
