Good evening. Well, I am now 1 day post-op from having my lap band placed.
Everything went very smoothly. So far the worst part has been the prep of
drinking that phosphosoda that made me gag more than once and the absolute
lack of sleep you get the first night in the hospital. Today I am in a bit
more pain that I was yesterday. I am home though and not on the same type
of pain medication. I am sure it will get better each day. Just trying
rest and follow the stage diet I am supposed to do. It is taking some
adjustment but I will manage for sure.
I will keep you posted with how things are going for me over the next few
days.
Take care!!! -- Donna Matchett

Well, my surgery is scheduled for this Friday 8/19/05. I am starting to
get a little nervous but SO excited too. I see this as the start of my new
life....finally! I have been through all of the pre-op testing and
requirements and things have gone rather smoothly. I feel like I am
prepared for what is ahead and eager to start this path. I have chosen the
Lap band and am looking forward to having this tool to help me get to my
goal. Yes, losing the weight is going to be asthetically wonderful but
more importantly I want to be healthier. I want to ride bikes with my
children and do all the things that my larger size has kept me from for
years. I want to prevent the heart disease/diabetes that runs in my
family. With this tool and my commitment to the process...I believe this
will be my new way of life. Watch for future postings. I think this is an
important part of the process and helps others to make the right choice for
them. Wish me luck!!!! -- Donna Matchett

Aug 2005 - Well I have now noticed that my restriction is pretty well gone
after having the Gastric Bypass last Sept. 2004. I started out at 270 and
am now 158. Can't seem to get any lower but am healthy for the first time.
I am truly scared as now the tool is gone and it is up to me. Still have
counseling which is helping. Just wanted to update. Kim Pendleton -- Kim Pendleton

4/07/05 My friend and I decided to attend Dr. Valin's seminar. Someone in
the audience asked if they started the process now, how soon could they
have surgery. My friend and I were both surprised when the said May/June.
We thought the process would be longer. -- Nunie L

Hi Everyone:
Today is the 15th, day after Valentine's day, hope everyone had a nice
one. I am down to 200 now, from 240, going a little slow, but I can deal
with it as long as it keeps going. I really need to watch the things that
I am eating because I feel like I am just eating anything, even the bad
fried things that are no no's. Does anyone else have this problem? Thumbs
up to Kim P for the tremendous loss!!! AWESOME!! -- Tracey DeMilo

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to update how I'm doing. I had the Open RNY in
July '04 and have lost 100lbs! I have 70 lbs to go to get to my goal
weight. It's getting a bit tougher now that I can eat more foods and some
of the old cravings are coming back.
I'm going to be enrolling in Chris's support group on the psychological
aspects of eating-something I really need to learn more about!
My cholesterol is 148, the lowest of my life (well...since I started
having it tested). My iron is a bit low, so I have to take iron pills.
The rest of my bloodwork came back fantastic! The supplements are working!
I am no longer morbidly obese-when I started out I was SUPER obese! In
fact, I no longer qualify for the surgery!
I'm heading out this weekend to take advantage of sales to get some more
new clothes-not too much though, I'm still dropping sizes!
Good luck to all who are starting out on the journey to wellness....join
us on Obestity Help...CT page...lots of us hang out there.
Dr. Valin and his office crew are the best! I traveled from Norwich to
have him as my doctor and I'm so glad I did....I'd have traveled across two
states!

Hello,
I am a patient of Dr. Barajas who is next door to Dr. Valin. This is such
a wonderful group of doctors and I am so grateful to them and their staff
for what they have done for me.
I am one month post op and have had the gastric bypass laporscopic and I
have lost 36lbs so far, this is such a miracle for me. Its been so long
since I can say I am losing.
Thank you so much to everyone at this surgical group you are all
wonderful. Especially Dr. Barajas and Gloria.
